Lens Options

Your options are unlimited at Sea View Optometric Center. Our staff will help you choose from a variety of lenses that will best suit your lifestyle and visual needs. We are continually updated on all the latest in technology so that we can provide the finest options to our clients.

  • Glass - The first lens material available, it is also the heaviest. Glass is not used frequently now do to its weight and inferior safety protection.
  • Plastic - Half the weight of glass and can be tinted to almost any color and density. Promotes eye safety, as plastic is more impact resistant than glass. It is also available in High Index which is thinner and lighter and a good choice for higher prescriptions.
  • Polycarbonate - The most impact resistant material available. A good choice for children, active patients and people with higher prescriptions. Usually the lightest, most comfortable lenses, they absorb all harmful UV light and can be made ultra thin because of their unique strength. These lenses always include a scratch protection coating and can be tinted to any color and density.
  • Photochromatic Lenses - Available in both glass and lightweight plastic (i.e. Transitions) these photosensitive lenses darken as you go from indoor to outdoor.
  • Progressive Addition Lenses - Often called "no-line" or "blended" bifocals, they provide continuous clear vision at all distances. These lenses are a great alternative to the older bifocal and trifocal "lined" lenses.
  • Polarized - Simply the very best type of sun lens for anyone involved in water activities, as well as daytime driving. These lenses eliminate glare and brightness while protecting the eye from harmful UV light.
  • Occupational Lenses - There are a variety of lenses that are "task specific" depending on your visual needs and profession. Once the doctor is aware of your situation, he is able to recommend the best lens for you.

Optional Lens Treatments

  • Scratch Protection Coating - Lightweight plastic lenses can be more easily scratched that glass lenses. This special coating has been designed to make lenses more resistant to scratching.
  • UV Protection - A special invisible filter for plastic lenses than protects the eyes from harmful UV light.
  • Anti/Reflection Coating - Particularly effective for reducing eye fatigue for computer operators and anyone driving at night. AR coated lenses enhance vision by removing all distracting reflections and glare. Cosmetically this coating makes your eyeglass lenses look invisible, allowing others to see your eyes without reflections
  • Tint - Available in a wide array of colors and shades. They can be added to reduce brightness or as a fashion accessory. Tints can be a solid color, gradient color fading to clear, or multiple colors fading into each other (i.e. multi-gradient).
  • Mirror Coating - Can be added to sunglass lenses to significantly cut down on brightness and prevent others from seeing your eyes, or where you are looking.
  • Edge Polish - A high gloss polish of the edges of eyeglass lenses to give them a rich finished look.
