"The Simple Facts About Contact Lenses -
And What You NEED to know!"

More than half of all Americans - some 130 million people - require vision correction. Of this group, approximately 30 million people have chosen to wear contact lenses. Wheather you are nearsighted, farsighted, have an astigmatism or just want to change your eye color, contacts have a comfortable feel and natural look that offer a practical way to deal with vision correction. Advances in contact lenses and lens care products have made it possible for almost anyone who needs vision correction to wear contacts.

Contact Lens Benefits

Today's contact lenses provide options for every lifestyle and can help correct many vision problems. Active Americans are finding that contacts are more practical than glasses. Contacts offer better depth perception, improved peripheral vision and enhanced visual acuity. They also resist smudging and fogging when moving from cold to warm temperatures.

Most first-time wearers are delighted with the level of comfort that contact lenses provide. An initial exam and contact lens fitting by the Doctors can help you adjust to your lenses for problem-free, long-term wear.

Finding the Right Pair For You

Presbyopia, astigmatism, myopia? These are medical terms for certain eye problems that may be helped by contact lenses. After a thorough exam, the Doctors may recommend a specific type of contact lens designed to help improve your particular condition.

Soft
Soft contact lenses are made from flexible plastic that allows oxygen to pass through to the eye. Daily wear lenses are designed to be removed and cleaned each day. Daily wear disposable lenses are removed before sleeping, cleaned, disinfected and replaced every two weeks. Daily disposable soft lenses are removed before sleeping, discarded, and replaced with a new set of lenses the next day.

Extended wear lenses can usually be worn up to a month without removal. Extended wear disposable lenses are usually discarded, and replaced after one week to one month depending on the type. Planned replacement lenses, also known as frequent replacement lenses, are discarded and replaced on an arranged schedule, usually every month, quarterly or semiannually. Planned replacement lenses are available for either daily or extended wear.

Rigid Gas Permeable
Rigid Gas Permeable lenses (RGPs) are made of special, firmer plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the eye. RGPs come in daily and extended wear varieties and may be suited for people with astigmatism.

Today's Contacts Fit Your Lifestyle

Whether you're a baby boomer, an athlete, or a fashion-conscious teen, contact lenses can fit your lifestyle. Here's how:

Many baby boomers suffer from presbyopia ("aging eyes") and can benefit from bifocal contact lenses which allow eyes to balance and focus for both distance viewing and reading. For everyday athletes and weekend joggers, contacts can improve a person's ability to judge the distance and speed of objects, as well as other players. As an added plus, they don't fog or smudge when temperatures change, which makes them perfect for many sports.

For daily wear or just special occasions, tinted soft lenses offer fashion-conscious people the option of changing their eye color. The color is visible on the eyes but does not affect the color of objects viewed through the lenses. They come in a variety of colors.

Taking Care of Your Lenses

Good lens care can help ensure a lifetime of healthy eyes, with that in mind, contact lens cleaning, disinfecting and storage have been made easier and more convenient. Whatever lens care system is prescribed for you, remember to follow the instructions completely. Do not change your lens care system without consulting the Doctors first.
